This course examines literary and filmic texts from the German
Enlightenment to contemporary German literature and television via a
focus on crime and detection genres. The Krimi is one of the most
popular genres in contemporary Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Narratives of crime and detection promise to fulfill the readers
desire to uncover hidden truths. The fascination with crime and the
thrill of detection inform classical detective novels as well as
psychoanalytical case studies.
