Survey of organic chemistry reactions in an aqueous environment, highlighting transformations important for understanding the properties and reactivity of biomolecules in the cell, with emphasis on functional groups, acids and bases, chirality, energetics, reaction mechanisms, enzyme inhibitors and drug design. Recitations: M 7-8 p.m. or 8-9 p.m. or Tu 9-10 a.m. or T 1-2 p.m. all in E309.
Prerequisites: chem 111 or 115 and chem 112, or consent of instructor
