Tools of literary history used to examine the influence of African-American culture in the United States. Focus on the literary events of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. Emphasis on the authority of African-American culture for U.S. fictions of democracy. This course satisfies the Introductory Emphasis Requirement for the major.
