Focusing on the Atlantic slave trade and the slave plantation mode of production, this course explores English colonization, and the emergence and the decline of British Empire in the Americas and Caribbean from the 17th through the late 20th centuries. It tracks some of the intersecting and overlapping routesand rootsconnecting histories and politics within and between these new world locations. It also tracks the further and proliferating links between developments in these regions and the histories and politics of regions in the old world, from the north Atlantic to the South China sea.
