An examination of novels and memoirs written by women in the Arab Middle East from the early 20th century to the present. The aim is to approach social and political changes in the region from a literary perspective. Readings by Huda Shaarawi, Fatima Mernissi, Nawal al-Saadawi, Huda Barakat and Nuha al-Radi.
Prerequisites: One 100-level course in Anth, Pols, Hist, or Socl.
