A lecture course with laboratory emphasizing current knowledge in cell biology. Among topics discussed are cell membranes, cell surface specializations, cell motility and the cytoskeleton, regulation of cell activity, energy generation and protein synthesis. Laboratory experiments are focused on studies of cell structure, making use of techniques in cell culture and immunocytochemistry. Lecture three hours, laboratory four hours a week. Prerequisites: BIOL 201 or 271, or with permission of instructor. This course may be taken concurrently with CHEM 211. Haverford: Natural Science (NA)
