Analyzes European capitals and metropolises architectural and urban
character through history, politics, economics, culture, urban
planning and building laws. Comparing histories of national
intervention and local initiatives, examines the effect of European
unification. In contemporary design trends, the course pays attention
to sustainable development. In concentrating on the analysis of the
historic construction of urban identity in European cities and its
impact on contemporary urban form, the analysis is a backdrop for the
evaluation of American cities. Cross listed with CITY/FREN/HART B227.
Enrollment limited to 20 students. This course will be writing intensive.
