Courses: Marx and Critical Theory (PHILH224A01)
Fall 2009
The first (and primary) focus of this course is on various themes in Karl Marxs social theory, including alienation and labor, commodity fetishism and ideology, historical materialism, and capitalist exploitation. The other focus is on the critical theory developed by Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno in response to the events of WWII and the Holocaust. Readings will be made up mostly of primary sources, with some secondary readings to aid in the tasks of understanding and interpretation.
