Fall 2009
This course aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to film. Structurally, it will trace film's historical trajectory beginning with its invention as a technology, a look at early cinema as well as an exploration of film's prototypes. The course concludes with an exploration of film's reinvention as an apparatus in the age of digital filmmaking, a reinvention augured by contestations to the studio in avant-garde and experimental film forms.
