Interdisciplinary examination of the issues, with texts by Appiah, Bhabha, Fanon, Hall, Said and others. Concepts include exile, displacement, diaspora, alienation, transnationalism, hybridity, and cosmopolitanism. Topics include cultural imperialism, orientalism, and cultural property debates. Strategies employed by artists from the mid-19th C to the present who negotiate the terrain of cultural identity.
