Spring 2008
Class Number: 1140

New Course: John Miltons epic poem, Paradise Lost, was written
during a period of cultural turmoil and innovation. This renaissance
poem has helped shape the way later writers understand their
profession, especially their obligation to foster dissent as a
readerly practice. Exploring this legacy, readings interleave
Paradise Lost and Miltons political writings with responses by later
revolutionary writers, from Blake to Philip Pullman. Enrolmment
limited to 30 students, selected by lottery.
