This course has two goals: (1) to read closely Gadamer's Truth and Method and (2) to apply Gadmer's philosophical hermeneutics to traditional Chinese peotry (Wang Wei) and thought (Chuang Tzu), traditional texts that are both historically distant and culturally other to us.
