This seminar will reconstruct the development & functioning of constitutional law in American society from 1787 to the present. We will review the major episodes in American constitutional history; identify the salient issues in constitutional law; explore the relation between the sociology of the legal profession & the functioning of the American legal system; & consider critically the ideological implications of different theories of jurisprudence.
