The fall-semester course is a survey of Western Civilization from the fall of Rome to the sixteenth century. It focuses on the institutional and intellectual dimensions of the western tradition, by closely interrogating both primary sources and secondary accounts. (The spring semester is another independent course; each semester can be taken independently of the other.)
