NEW COURSE: This course will explore some aspects of early American
constitutional thought, particularly in the periods immediately
preceding and following hte American Revolution. The premise of the
course is that many of the questions that arose during that
period--concerning, for example, the nature of law, the idea of
sovereignty, and the character of legitimate political
authiruty--remain important questions for political, legal and
constitutional thought today, and that studying those debates can help
sharpen our understanding of these issues. Cross listed with POLS B378.
