This course addresses the social history of sexual practices,
societal and governmental regulations of sex, and the changing
cultural meaning of sex from the 16th century to the present. This
course focuses on such topics as gay and lesbian history and the
construction of heterosexuality. We will pay close attention to the
intersection of race and sexuality and the ways in which sexuality has
been a prime arena for the expression of social inequality in America.
Enrollment limited to 15 students.
