Where We Are
Haverford's location is the best of both worlds. Our campus is a mere ten miles from Philadelphia; minutes from Bryn Mawr, Swarthmore, and Villanova; and a short train ride or drive from New York City, Washington D.C., the Pocono Mountains, and the Jersey Shore.
Located just outside the city limits of Philadelphia, Haverford enjoys the space and tranquility of the Main Line while being within easy reach of Philadelphia's historic neighborhoods, world-class museums, renowned restaurants, professional sports teams, and venues for concerts and the performing arts. Students and faculty love the combination of Haverford's leafy tranquility and Philly's urban energy. The 80 colleges and universities in the area make for a total of approximately 300,000 students–the greater Philadelphia metropolitan area is the second-largest concentration of college students on the East Coast. Shuttles, buses, and trains make it easy for students to travel from campus to campus and into the city.
Most of the College is set in its namesake town of Haverford Township, a community of nearly 50,000 people. A small portion of the campus closest to Lancaster Avenue is in Lower Merion Township. Lancaster Avenue is the main thoroughfare, and runs northwest from Philadelphia, by Haverford College, and on past Bryn Mawr and Villanova. It's where Haverford's extended "college town" exists, and there's no shortage of coffee houses, bookstores, pizza and Philadelphia cheesesteak spots, and ethnic restaurants. It's also where you'll find the new Bryn Mawr Film Institute and many options for watching high school and college sports (including NCAA Division I basketball).
