Dr. Stephen G. Emerson '74
Haverford's 13th President, inaugurated October 6, 2007.
Steve Emerson, M.D, Ph.D, is a member of Haverford's class of 1974. He returns to the College after a celebrated career as a physician and stem cell biologist, publishing well over 100 research papers and securing nearly a dozen patents. Outside the lab, he plays on a championship Bridge team. Always eager to take on new challenges, Steve was a founding member of the College's first men's lacrosse team ("The first game we played was the first game we'd seen") and is bringing energy and enthusiasm to his new role.

Stem Cell Biology (BIOLH363G01)
This spring Professor Emerson will be teaching Stem Cell Biology, which will develop an understanding of the molecular mechanisms that regulate stem cell self-renewal and differentiation.

Dr. Emerson has written over 100 peer reviewed research publications. A selection follows:
NF-Ya activates multiple hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) regulatory genes and promotes HSC self-renewal.- Alloreactive Memory T Cells Are Responsible for the Persistence of Graft-versus-Host Disease
- NF-Y cooperates with USF1/2 to induce the hematopoietic expression of HOXB4
