Speech Acts: Across Media and Around the World

This reading group will examine the greatest orators of our time to see the way they raised their voices, clenched their fists and captivated their audiences. Using a variety of media, including tape recordings, radio broadcasts and youtube clips, we will look at political rhetoric in all its forms, the good and the bad.

The Humanities Center sponsors small Reading Groups devoted to shared close readings of texts without the pressure of pedagogical oversight.

This reading group will examine the greatest orators of our time to see the way they raised their voices, clenched their fists and captivated their audiences. Using a variety of media, including tape recordings, radio broadcasts and youtube clips, we will look at political rhetoric in all its forms, the good and the bad. All are welcome.
