Fine Arts Senior Thesis Exhibition
Haverford and Bryn Mawr College seniors exhibit work in a show running May 7-30, 2010. Join us for an opening reception in the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery on Friday, May 7, 2010, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Eating disorders, spirituality, and a 19th-century serial killer are all explored through various mediums in the Senior Art Show at Haverford College’s Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery, running May 7-30, 2010. In the show, Fine Arts majors from Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges display the work they completed for their senior projects.
The paintings of Bryn Mawr College’s Bethany Giblin look at the inner struggles of a woman with an eating disorder—“the obsession, self-hatred, and anxiety surrounding body image influenced by the media and the fashion industry,” she says. Giblin has interned with Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Program and Amberella Gallery.
Haverford senior Hannah-Ruth Miller presents a three-part sculpture installation that uses water in a symbolic manner to represent the three aspects of spirituality: the self, the other, and the infinite. In addition to water, she employs such materials as wood, mirrors, and paper. Miller was an artist-in-residence on Newfoundland’s Fogo Island last summer. She plans on continuing her education in the Creative Arts in Therapy M.A. program at Drexel University, with a specialization in Art Therapy.
Rebecca Morgan, also of Haverford, examines the life of 19th-century slave trader and serial killer Patty Cannon using graphic elements of charcoal drawing, influenced by aspects of comic art and ink work. She has designed sets for several Haverford student theater productions, and in 2006 she created a mural for the Joint Replacement Center at Christiana Medical Center in Wilmington, Del.
Located in Whitehead Campus Center and overseen by the John B. Hurford ’60 Humanities Center, the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery is open Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday noon-5 p.m., and Wednesdays until 8 p.m.
