Emily Bock '11 took the lead on a research project for the Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania's Women's Studies program.
This summer, thanks to the Humanities Center research grant, I was able to take the lead on a research project for the Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania's Women's Studies program. Dr. Shari Horner, the coordinator of the program, and I worked together to put together a proposal to present to the faculty of the Women's Studies program to suggest a change in the name of the program to “Women's and Gender Studies.” My work consisted of many different tasks. Some work specific to familiarizing myself with the on-campus culture at Shippensburg and also within the Women's Studies program included interviewing professors involved in the program and collecting information from students enrolled (or formerly enrolled) in the minor. Other tasks included finding relevant contemporary scholarship from the fields of women's, gender, and sexuality studies, and reaching out to similar programs at other PASSHE (Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education) universities.
