*Tips for Writing the CPGC Internship Personal Statement*

Proposals should be written well and presented professionally. If your proposal is not written well, it may be hard for the committee reviewing applications to understand what you have in mind and what is valuable about it. And if your proposal is not presented in a professional way, the committee might infer that you took little care in preparing it and that your commitment to the proposed project is not great.

To be sure that your proposal is well-written, you should consult the resources available on the Haverford College Writing Center website. In particular, all applicants are strongly encouraged to consult about their proposals with one of the Writing Center’s peer advisors. (Information on the availability of peer advisors can be found here.) In addition, the University of Wisconsin Writing Center maintains a web page with links to a wealth of resources about writing grant proposals. The resources available at that site can guide you through the entire process of generating a proposal, from the initial stage of formulating a good idea for a project to presenting your ideas in a way that will be persuasive to the committee reviewing applications. The CPGC will also be holding proposal-writing workshops for prospective interns in mid-November and mid-January – watch your email for more information.
