#34 - Japanese Umbrella Pine (Sciadopitys verticillata)
The Japanese Umbrella Pine is a slow grower and reaches only 20 to 30 feet tall. It forms a dark green, very dense pyramid, however, and unlike many conifers, retains its lower branches. Look directly at the end of a branch to see how the needles are arranged in whorls that resemble the spokes of an umbrella.
